Albums played a key role in the emergence of the ninth art and its acceptance among other forms of literary narrative. From \u003ci\u003eBarbarella\u003c\/i\u003e in 1964 to \u003ci\u003eLa Ballade de la mer salée\u003c\/i\u003e in 1975, from \u003ci\u003eAstérix \u003c\/i\u003eand its million copies to \u003ci\u003eTintin \u003c\/i\u003eand its screen versions, within the space of just a few years the comics landscape underwent a deep transformation.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe album opened up new ways of creating, distributing, and reading \u003ci\u003ebandes dessinées\u003c\/i\u003e. This shift upended the market, transformed readership, initiated new transmedia adaptations, generated critical discourse, and gave birth to new kinds of comics fandom. These transformations are analysed through a series of case studies, each focusing on a noteworthy album.
